This got me to thinking today, while I was diligently cursing each weed as I yanked them one by one from the ground. Weeds are a whole lot like some of my not so pleasant characteristics and bad habits: The longer I let them grow, the more of a pain in my ass they become. My husband, he's a wise man.
Not only do they multiply & cause more trouble the longer I let them sit but the deeper the root, and the harder they become to pull. Same goes with our bad habits, and unfavorable qualities.
Part of life is learning to deweed ourselves, our homes, and our gardens. Weeds steal a plants vital nutrients, just like
•negativity and complaining steals our peace and joy.
•bitterness and unforgiveness steals our oppurtunities for healthy relationships.
•insecurity and comparisons steal our confidence and gratefulness.
Just to name a few.
It seems like an easy concept, to just pull the weeds and you are back to sunshine and daisies, but we all know how deep those weeds can grow. Some have thorns that prick us when we try to pull them, some have spiders that scare us away, and some just won't go away. It can take a lot of hard work, some sweat, lots of prayers, and maybe a few tears to clear out the weeds and make room for the flowers.
Pulling weeds doesn't mean you'll never see one pop up again, it just means you are making progress, and making room for the beautiful things in your life that can sometimes be overtaken by the ugly. So let your flowers bloom, pull the weeds, but be sure you don't throw dirt while you do it.
