Contrary to popular belief, I do not wake up at the crack of dawn by the sound of a roosters crow. I do however wake up to one extremely handsome farmer who leans over and whispers "rise and shine, sunshine." Which is quickly followed by a few huffs and puffs and an occasional obscenity. Also contrary to popular belief, this farmers wife rarely acts like a proper lady. I curse like a farmer during a drought, and I drink beer like one too. Jesus loves me anyways. A day in the life of a farmers wife for me doesn't always include the farm, or the cows, or my husband explaining yet another foreign concept to his extremely inquisitive used-to-be-a-city-girl wife. Today, however was one of those days that I got to put my boots to use and be the farmers wife I so love to be!
We started our morning putting silage out for the cows. Silage is fermented corn that is stored and used for feed. Cody and his dad put it out every other day. While they did the dirty work I loved on my daughters 4H heifer, Bailey, and pretended to be a cow whisperer, which I have proven several times I am anything but. We then hopped in the semi and headed to Morristown to Bunge's, one of the largest grain elevators in this area. My husband makes the hour long trip quite often, but I've never gotten a chance to go, since it typically takes up the entire day. I was so excited I got to go with him! I've been everywhere else they haul their grain but never here. It was so cool to see! The grain bins were 10 times the size of ours at home. Bunge's also makes soybean oil which is in all sorts of foods! Every time you sit down to eat, be thankful for a farmer! There wouldn't be food on our plates if it wasn't for them!

From Bunge's we made our way to Greenfield and had lunch with my father in law and brother in law! Always a good laugh with those three guys! Belly's full of food and laughter, we headed back to the farm, and I fought to keep my eyes open. There's something about being in a semi that is so peaceful, and puts me right to sleep! My husband says its because of the sound of the "stack" (inside joke for us... every time I see a pick-up truck with a stack I grumble loudly about it being the STUPIDEST thing I've ever seen in my entire life and Cody laughs and always says "man, that stack looks so cool" ugh NO! )
When we got back to the farm we went to check on the new baby calves. One of the babies was born on our anniversary so she is now known as 219! I love all the babies so much! There are 10 on the farm right now, and my favorite thing ever is to see the mama's with their babies. They are so protective, just like this mama ;) There is just something so amazing about seeing a mom with her kin!

After loving on the babies for a few, Cody had to get back to truckin' and I had to get home to take advantage of the sunshine and hit the pavement for my first outdoor run of the season!

But before I could take off I was stopped by a new furry friend. For whatever reason stray cats love me. They must communicate to one another... "hey guys, that city girl living down they way, feeds you, loves you, and brings you inside when it gets cold." Yes, contrary to popular belief (seeing how many times I can use this saying at one time) you don't have to be single and depressed to be the cat lady.

All in all, I had a FANTASTIC day! Days like today remind me how blessed I am to be married to a hardworking farmer! He has the best job! And after a busy week it was nice to spend some quality time together! I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
